Happy 50th Doctor Who!!!!!!

Image
It's here!!  It's here!!!!   The 50th Anniversary of my most favorite television program on Earth!  Happy 50th Doctor Who!!! I've been watching Doctor Who since I've been a tiny little thing.  My first episode was The Time Warrior.   Since I was so young, I didn't remember much of the story until almost two decades later when I finally got my hands on a VHS copy. (Yes you youngin's, BEFORE dvd/blu-ray players!) ;) The thing I remembered most from the episode was when the Third Doctor first met Sarah Jane. She had just walked into the room she was sharing with the Doctor and Prof. Rubish and tried to pull off pretending to be her Aunt Lavinia. (of course the Doctor saw right through that!) ;)  Doctor Who was a family affair in our household.  Our local PBS station in Minneapolis, KTCA (now TPT, I think...) aired Doctor Who on Friday and Saturday nights-although they did try a little bit of everything, it seemed. Friday and Saturday wer...

Celebrating 50 years!

Image
Thursday I was sitting at work, when my coworker Nora, herself a Whovian, came up to me and asked me if I knew about the Art Bites tour at the Cleveland Museum of Art (Art Bites are 30 minute gallery tours during the lunch hour) This week's topic? Wibbly-Wobbly, Timey-Wimey! Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who by taking a tour of galleries of places that the Doctor and his companions visited. Well, duh!  Of course I was in!  Fellow Whovian Elanor joined us, too!  The woman giving the tour was obviously a big Whovian herself (well, of course she was-she came up with the idea for this Art Bite. ;) ).  The stories represented were The Romans, The Wedding of River Song, A Good Man Goes to War, The Girl in the Fireplace (the museum has the most beautiful rug on display-hard to believe it's from Louis XV's dining room!), and Vincent and the Doctor. It was a really awesome tour that went by really fast (and reminded me that I really should take advantage of the ...

Top 10 Favorite Doctor Who Companions

Three days until the 50th Anniversary!!!!  Fun fact-Three was my first Doctor!  The first episode I remember watching as a child was The Time Warrior with Jon Pertwee and Elisabeth Sladen's first appearance as Sarah Jane Smith. They say your first companion is always your favorite-not sure how true it is, but in my case, it certainly is!!!!  She was like the older sister I never had. Speaking of favorite companions, the folks at BBC America's Anglophenia blog have come up with top favorite lists to celebrate the 50th Anniversary.  Check out their companion list! 10 Favorite Companions ...obviously, I totally agree with No. 1 on their list. ;)   I also have to agree with No. 2-I love Donna Noble-I felt as though she was the Sarah Jane Smith of the "New Who" era. :) I pretty much agree with the entire list- (yes, even though Rose is on the list-I had no problem with her during her tenure with 9-I just felt that with 10 she got to whiny and needed....

4 Days and counting!!!!

4 days until the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who!!!!!  Here is a great post from BBC America's Anglophenia blog filled with all sorts of video clips and information about the 50th anniversary, including the pre-show before The Day of the Doctor !!! :-D Countdown to the Day of the Doctor Enjoy!!! #SaveTheDay

The 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who is only a week away!!!!! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am! I've been watching the show since I was 2 and a half-years old! There is so much I could say, but for now, I'll let these videos do the talking. :-D Trailer for The Day of the Doctor I see some serious 'sonic' envy happening in this trailer-do you? LOL. Prequel Mini-sode, Night of the Doctor Just a link to it, for those who don't want to be completely spoiled. ;) Doctor Who Children in Need special, the Day of the Doctor: Preview for the Doctor Who biopic, An Adventure in Space and Time Are you as excited as I am?!?!?!?!?!?!?! :-D

Here's a little something I contributed to over late summer/early fall. :)

RIP Elisabeth Sladen

http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2011/04/dwn190411204508-elisabeth-sladen-1948.html Right now I am incredibly sad and at a loss for words. Sarah Jane was my favorite Doctor Who companion, and I absolutely adored The Sarah Jane Adventures . I can't believe she is really gone. I will probably be writing up a tribute of my own within the next couple of days, but for now... Farewell, Sarah Jane Smith. Rest in peace, Elisabeth Sladen.

Make your own Owl Lovers 2011 Calendar!

Image
Just found this on Craftzine -a link to make your own (free!) 2011 Owl Calendar. I made one for myself. The images are just too cute! It was hard to pick only 12. I may have to make another one! The artwork is just fantastic. Oh! I can't do a post today without adding, 'Happy Birthday Doctor Who!!!!' Hard to believe it's been around for 47 years! For fun, if you missed it on my knitting blog: Tardis socks!

the beginning of summer!

Well, I thought for sure I would post more in the month of June, but it just didn't happen. I caught a bad cold at the beginning of the month, which caused a double ear infection (yuck!), and I'm still not 100%. Blah! It's weird still being here-usually by this time I'm in Minnesota visiting my family for the Fourth of July. I'm still going up there this summer-just later in July (after Mount Carmel!) Since I'm here, I'll be able to play in the parade at Shore Acres-I played there the first year I was in Italian Band, but ever since then I've always been in Minnesota. Wait, now that I think about it, I might have played there the first two years I was in Italian band...that still makes it 11 years since I've played that gig! ;) I've got quite the container garden on my back porch-I've had quite a few successes, a couple of disappointments, a surprise, and one puzzle: I have no idea what's wrong with my marigolds this year-half of the...

countdown!!

D.W.Q.M.: "Of course you don't, why should you? You're a busy man, you don't want to stand here burbling about my ears. Neither ear, nor there, is it? Eh? But I can't waste any more time. Things to do, places to go. I'm a busy man too, you know." -the Fourth Doctor, to Harry Sullivan, in Robot In a couple of days, I will be on vacation. I am so not ready. I'm not in panic mode...yet. Actually, it's not too bad-finished my laundry, paid some bills. I think I'm doing good if I don't call my sister and nag at her everyday between now and my vacation about when she is picking me up. LOL. Tonight I am going to do something I almost never do-I'm going to start setting aside clothes to pack...3 days before my plane leaves for MN. Ha! Take that, vacation gods! *hee* I can't wait! Okay, quick fan girl moment: Spoilers for episodes 12 and 13 of Doctor Who... + + + + + + .....you've been warned.... + + + + + + + + + + + Sarah Jane and Lu...

to blog or not to blog!

D.W.Q.M.: "Now you've squashed my favorite Beatles." -the First Doctor I'm coming up on my 5th blogaversary. Hard to believe I started this blog 5 years ago!!! I looked back at when I first started, and I realized I posted quite alot. More recently, I haven't been posting much at all. Once, maybe twice a month, if that. So I have decided, in honor of my upcoming anniversary, I will try to post more, even if it's just silly little things-short entries without much content. I want to get back to personal blogging. :) (I haven't been totally absent from the blogsphere-I've been contributing to the Idiot's Lantern and Sarah-Jane.tv on a somewhat regular basis. ;)) In honor (geez, there's alot of honors in this post.) of my new commitment, here is a fun, silly fan vid from BabelColour: I love his videos!

Moffat to take over from Davies!!

D.W.Q.M.: "Splendid chaps...all of them." -the Brigadier (from the Fifth Doctor story, the Five Doctors ) Steven Moffat will be taking over the reigns of Executive Producer and Head Writer of Doctor Who from Russell T. Davies, starting in 2010 with the 5th series: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2008/05_may/20/who.shtml In one word: AWESOME!!! I love Steven Moffat! (x-posted to the Idiot's Lantern )

Mommy Time! ;)

D.W.Q.M.: Sarah: "Oh, I could murder a cup of tea. You're serious, aren't you?" the Third Doctor: "About what I do, yes. Not necessarily the way I do it." My Mommy came for a visit!! Well, actually, she went to D.C. to see the Pope, but she stopped by on her way there, and on her way back! So we had a short visit, 2 weekends in a row. ;) This was the first time she's seen my new place. :) Even though our time was short, we still managed to have fun. The first weekend she was here, the Sarah Jane Adventures premiered on SciFi, so we watched that together. :) (Have I mentioned she's partly responsible for my Doctor Who addiction?) This was an extremely short visit, though-she had to leave the next morning for D.C., and I was headed for Cincinatti that weekend. This past weekend, she came on Saturday. I had just bought the Time Warrior and Planet of Evil on dvd, so we sat down and watched the Time Warrior (which was my very first Doctor Who story) S...

Doctor Who and Sarah Jane!

D.W.Q.M.: "Fantastic!" -the Ninth Doctor Wow, I need to post here more-what else is new? I was going to post some New Years resolutions, but I've already broken some, so what's the point? LOL. Things are going well-been pretty busy, but that's ok. :) Some exciting news from the SciFi channel!!! The fourth series of Doctor Who will air on the SciFi channel beginning in April!!! (sometime after it premieres on the BBC, obviously. That's rumored to be April 5th) If it does indeed air here in the US in April, it'll be the fastest the new series has made it to this side of the pond! :) Also coming to SciFi in April, the second spinoff, the Sarah Jane Adventures!! New Who and Sarah to air on SciFi Yay, Sarah Jane !

Woo-hoo! Doctor Who!

D.W.Q.M.: "Fantastic!" -the Ninth Doctor So I'm sitting here, working on my computer with the tv on in the background, tuned to SciFi. (where else would it be? LOL) I just saw a commercial for the third series (season 29) of Doctor Who!!!! YAAAAAAAY!!!! LOL-the tiniest things do excite me so. I love being a geek girl. :-D

Doctor Who news

D.W.Q.M.: Sgt. Benton: "What are we going to do now?" the Second Doctor: "Keep it confused, feed it with useless information. I wonder if I have a television set handy?" ( author's note: this post can also be found at the Idiot's Lantern .) I just realized that I haven't been posting these over here ever week like I used to when there was new Who (in the U.S. or U.K.) I'll try to remember to cross post here when I do these for the Idiot's Lantern . Series 3/Season 29 in the U.K. Saturdays, 7pm (GMT) on BBC One Current episode: 5. Evolution of the Daleks Previous epiosdes: 4. Daleks in Manhattan 3. Gridlock 2. The Shakespeare Code 1. Smith and Jones The ratings are down in the U.K. Smith and Jones scored a record-breaking 8.2 million viewers last month, but last week's episode, Daleks in Manhattan , only scored 6.3 million. (However, it is still beating the competition!) Have the Daleks lost their touch? one writer asks. Well, I've got ...
