Chernobyl, 20 years later...

I first read about this over at Big Orange Michael , who was sent this link from another blogging friend of his. It's an interactive photo essay by Paul Fusco. It's about the children who were born after the Chernobyl disaster. It's a powerful, moving essay-but be warned, some of the images are quite disturbing. I was moved to tears at many of the images. Each image comes with a caption-you have to slide your mouse over the arrow in the corner of the picture. The slideshow pauses while you read the caption. Also, I didn't realize this at first because I didn't have my earphones on, but there is some narration along with the images-this also pauses when you choose to read the caption.

D.W.Q.M.: "You know, Doctor, I could play all day in my green cathedral." -Harrison Chase (from the Fourth Doctor Story, Seeds of Doom. ) Saturday was such a beautiful day, and today is turning out to be such a lovely day, that I thought I would do a post. You know it's spring when... 1. Orion is no longer the dominant constellation in the northern hemisphere's night sky. The Big Dipper has stolen the show. ;) 2. They've shut the heat off for the year. 3. You start to hear the 'music truck' (I mean the icecream truck-but don't tell the kiddies that.) 4. You see people running from their yards when they see what the winter months have done to them... (yes, I know, I used this before...) 5. ESS's annual picnic at the KSL oval. 6. Students lying around campus-shoes off, with their noses in books, studying for final exams. 7. Theta Chi's damage party!!!! hmm...do they still do that? 8. Fabulous weather for brisk spring walks. 9. The sounds of bird

New Earth Ahhh, with tonight's episode, we have reached the halfway point in the first series of Doctor Who here in the US. For those new to the series, what do you think? I hope you're enjoying it!! :) U.S.A. ratings: Unfortunately, Dalek experienced the lowest ratings so far in the series, with a 1.17 household rating with an aver

Scrambles

D.W.Q.M.: "We're talking about one of the most powerful blokes in the cosmos. "Nobble" him?" -the Third Doctor I find it sad that the birth of 'TomKat''s baby has made the front page of the Plain Dealer. Even if it is just a small corner-my thought is-who gives a flying frak? That's all I'm going to say about that. Speaking of flying things-on to much cooler stuff. :) Last night Perseph and I attended our first Ladies Scrambles for disc golf at Sims, and we had a blast! Perseph found out about it from Scotty last week, so we thought we'd give it a try. We get together then flip for partners (we were a little late, so they decided to let us be partners-good thing too-since we were new, we wanted to stick together. ;) ) Then when you play, you take the best shot. At first we felt a little intimidated, since most of them had been playing longer than us, but we were soon put at ease-everyone was really friendly, and gave us encouraging sho

With a 1.42 household rating (up two-tenths of a point from last week's episode), and 1.6 million viewers. Yay! So far, the End of the World has the highest rating here in the U.S.. Sorry this is so short! It's a busy day for me. :) Have a great weekend!!! Happy Easter!

D.W.Q.M.: "No, impossible-I'm fully booked for the next three centuries." -the Fourth Doctor If you happen to see someone running around this week like a chicken with it's head cut off, that's probably me, getting ready for Easter. *Ro, the chicken, running around...apparently with her head still intact.* Why do I always manage to do this to myself? I'm not even having company over! I'm going to be the company! The upside to all of this is that I get to hang out with some really cool people at the end of the week!! :) I've been really slacking with decorating-the last of my St. Patrick's Day decos finally came down last night. (I already had the lights down and Easter lights up). Lets see, Sunday I slept most of the afternoon (a short nap to get rid of a sinus headache ended up lasting 5 hours- D'oh! ) Monday night I was babysitting Lil'K (she's soo sweet!) Her parent's team made it through the first round of the playoffs (Congrat

This is down from last week's episode, which had 1.55 rating. Over all the series h

D.W.Q.M.: "Eureka" is Greek for "This bath is too hot". -the Fourth Doctor This is my new favorite promo card: I just love Stewie! Have I also mentioned before that I really love the gift subscription that I got for Non-Sport Update ? Yes, it's freakin' sweet! :) No more stalking the local Border's stores for me! ;) I meant to post this about a month ago when I got my last issue, but time just slipped away from me... Anyhoo, this coming Saturday, April 8th, is Open that box! day The editors of Non-Sport Update came up with the idea for collectors who have unopened boxes lying around for awhile (or even brand new boxes!) to open them up and share what they have found with the non-sport community. This is perfect-last year I won a box of Monty Python's Flying Circus cards off of eBay, but I promised myself I wouldn't open it until I cleaned and rearranged my bedroom. Well, I finished my room back in April (or was it early May? I don't remembe

D.W.Q.M.: "Eureka!" -the Third Doctor I said as soon as my blog was working I'd post this: "CONGRATS, PERSEPH!!! MSASS couldn't have gotten a better student. :)

is it really back?

D.W.Q.M.: "Eureka!" -the Third Doctor Is it true? Is blogger really back? Is it? can everyone see my new posts? YAY!!! I had been having trouble with blogger since March 31st-it looks like they may have fixed the problem (or at least part of the problem!) Special thanks to Jaya , who took some time off from studying to help me try to figure out what was wrong. You rock! :) We now return to my regular (or irregular, as the case has been), journal posting. :) *whew!

testing

D.W.Q.M.: "We still have our homicidal computer to deal with." -the Sixth Doctor This is just a test post to see if I can trick either blogger or the server to start publishing my posts again.
