Doctor Who and other random things...

D.W.Q.M.: Sarah Jane Smith: "Oh, stop being so silly." the Fourth Doctor: "Remember the French at Agincourt." Sarah Jane: "But they lost!" In less than a month Doctor Who arrives on Scifi- Woo-hoo!! :) :) I can hardly wait. :) :) Also, this June my favorite episode will be coming to dvd- Genesis of the Daleks will be released June 4th (I think) here in the US-the best part is that the two disc set will have the same bonus features as it's UK counterpart, set to be released in April. Yay!!! My Genesis tapes are starting to get a little worn...although I'll have to keep them around for a while, because the Sontarn Experiment is still on the first tape. ;) Here's a site that is both funny and a bit disturbing: check out Tom Baker Says ( ok, this may be more fun for Doctor Who fans, but others might find it amusing.) ;) So it was announced yesterday that RTA will probably be raising their fares this summer, due to fuel costs. Many riders are...

XX Winter Olympics

D.W.Q.M.: "You know, I am so constantly outwitting the opposition, I tend to forget the delight and satisfaction of the arts... the gentle art of fisticuffs." -the First Doctor YAY! Day 4 of the Winter Olympics!!! I LOVE the Winter Olympics!!!!!!!!!! Congrats to the women's ice hockey team on their two shut-out wins so far! I got the chance to watch them play Switzerland-it was awesome. I haven't been able to watch as much as I'd like-I'm still mad at CNBC-they aren't showing the Olympics when it's in the schedule-I got up early Saturday morning to watch some women's hockey, but they were showing world news, even though my guide still said women's hockey. What's up with that?!?!? I caught some things here and there when I had time-I saw the first run for the men's single luge, and I saw Shaun White's gold medal halfpipe performance-that was really cool. :) I can't wait to see the women's tonight!! (thank goodness all my sho...

Happy Groundhog's Day-6 more weeks of winter!!

D.W.Q.M.: Barbara: "Perhaps it's frozen." the First Doctor: "No, impossible... not in this temperature. Besides, it's too warm." According to Phil, there will be six more weeks of winter. At first, I was a little sad-I know! Me, the winter baby, the snow bunny, the one who thinks temperatures above 30 degrees in January is just plain wrong , I'm sad that there'll be another six weeks of winter, and it's only February 2nd!!! Well, it's been unusually warm, and I'm itching to play a little disc golf, preferrably at a temperature where my fingers won't get numb so I can still feel the edge of the disc. ;) Then I decided to check up on the St. Paul Winter Carnival back home to see how the ice sculptures were holding out. I went to WCCO's homepage and not only found pictures of this years' sculpture , but also pictures from a snow storm that passed through Minnesota last Thursday/Friday. Suddenly I feel very jipped by the unus...

New cards in 2006...

D.W.Q.M.: the First Doctor: "You know, I acquired that ulster from Gilbert and Sullivan." Ian: "Oh, really? I thought it was made for two." Ahh...I am really enjoying the gift subscription of Non-Sport Update that I got for Christmas/birthday-it's so nice not to have to worry if my local Borders has it yet!! Lately I've been sticking to just collecting promo cards, with the exception of the hunt for TV Guides last week for the SciFi Friday cards that were inserted in them. (I did managed to find them all. Yay!). This year, however, I may have to put some money aside in my 'save for fun' money jar-there's alot of good stuff coming out!! Rittenhouse Archives, which is one of my favorite card manufacturers, will have new Stargate and Stargate: Atlantis sets coming out-as well as sets for the new Battlestar Galactica -I read an article about the first season set, and I can't wait to get my hands on them! Another favorite of mine, Strickly Ink...

Liftoff! :)

D.W.Q.M.: "Eureka!" -the Third Doctor New Horizons took off at 2 pm EST today! I had been listening since 1, keeping Karen informed as they kept changing the launch time due to low clouds. As soon as they hit T-minus 4 minutes and counting, Karen tuned in at her desk. When the countdown hit T-minus 1 minute, I started to watch the live feed from NASA tv. :) It will pass the moon about 9 hours (from liftoff), and will pass by Jupiter in the spring of 2007, where it will get a gravity boost and shorted the trip to Pluto by a few years. New Horizons is on its way to Pluto!!!

New Horizons rescheduled...again...

D.W.Q.M.: Cornish: "Control to capsule: do you have visual contact?" the Third Doctor: "Do you mean 'Can I see it'?" News from NASA: the New Horizons launch has been scrubbed for the day. There was a power outage in Maryland (the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University is the spacecraft's mission operations center, and they are running on back up power) due to severe storms in the area. No word yet if they are going to reschedule the launch for tomorrow. If they do, the launch window will be 1:08pm-3:07pm EST. The launch was originally scheduled for yesterday, but they had to scrub it due to high winds at the launch site. Karen and I were following the countdown for about the last hour of the launch window (3:23pm, EST) (well, Karen was-I didn't get the chance until the last 45 minutes or so). We kept each other updated since neither of us could stay at our desks the whole time. lol ;) New Horizons is the first mission in NASA's...

FINALLY!!!!!!

D.W.Q.M.: "Fantastic!" -the Ninth Doctor Doctor Who is coming [back] to America!!! Doctor Who is coming [back] to America!!!! I first saw the news in Outpost Gallifrey's news section. Then I checked out the official press release from the BBC. Starting in March (probably after the season finales of the Stargates and BSG). Also, the release of the dvds have been moved to July 4th 2006. Time to update my countdowns! (note: the countdown to scifi is based on Outpost Gallifrey's guess that it'll be aired a week after the season finales of the SciFi Friday shows-I will update it again when I hear the official start date.) YES!

A new year, some new wisdom...sorta. ;)

D.W.Q.M.: "Brigadier, I think our past is catching up with us. Or maybe it's our future." -the Second Doctor Hmmm...it's a good thing I didn't make a resolution to post more in this blog-I would have already broken it! ;) Today people having been making 'getting old' jokes at me...I wonder why? ;) *heehee* I was also asked if I could still tell people how old I was-I said for one more year. They guessed my age right away. ;) As always, I must say, "Happy Anniversary of becoming a mom, Mom!" :-D (she always laughs when I tell her that.) Today's post is dedicated to my Mom. :) When we were Christmas shopping last month, she said she wanted to buy some socks for the grandchildren, because they always seem to be loosing them. You remember what it was like-they get lost in your room, eaten by the washer, dryer and the dog-when you're over at a friend's, they are sometimes left there. Even in the cold Minnesotan weather, our feet got into ...

back from Minnesota

D.W.Q.M.: "First things first, but not necessarily in that order." -the Fourth Doctor. I'm back from the land of cold and snow...although towards the end of my trip, it became warm with no snow-almost. ;) Despite a few things, I had a great time. The kiddies are soooo cute! I meant to try to log on while I was away, but I just didn't have the time. Here are a few notes I made in my journal-hopefully I'll get around to talking about my trip more, but you know me. ;) I do plan to post pics, though...eventually. LOL Trip Notes: 1. Getting sick at the beginning of your trip really sucks big time. The jury is still out on whether I brought it to them, or they gave it to me (they are leaning towards giving it to me), but at one point, my mom said my sister's place sounded like the TB ward at the hospital. Stupid colds! 2. I have witnessed a scene with the family dog and a stuffed gorilla that has scarred me for life and basically turned me off of ever wanting to be...

countdown...aaaah!

D.W.Q.M.: "More hasta, less vista." -the Seventh Doctor First off: Detroit Lions: 13 Green Bay Packers: 16 YEAH! I am soo happy I was able to catch the end of the game! Favre set a new record-he's the first player in NFL history to record 14 seasons of over 3,000 passing yards. Way to go, Brett!! Woo! :) I also watched Gado attempt to make the infamous 'Lambeau leap' after making GreenBay's only touchdown during the game. He didn't quite make it-but give him time. ;) He also broke a Packer's rookie record-had 171 yards on 29 carries. Way to go, Samkon!! :) ----- Okay, so the last couple of months have been really hectic-I've either been too busy or too tired to post. I noticed at the beginning of this month I didn't even get a November Night Sky post out. dang! I've got so much to say and so little time! I fly to Minnesota this week. Two months ago, leaving this early seemed like such a good idea... Hmmm...lets see: quick breakdown of the ...

Valentine's Day present from the BBC....

D.W.Q.M.: "Eurkea!" -the Third Doctor Doctor Who dvds are coming to America, Doctor Who dvds are coming to America!!!!! What could be better thank region 1 discs for the first series coming to Canada? The BBC releasing a set in the United States!!!! Woo-hoo!!! "The BBC is choosing to release the DVD set in advance of any plans to license Doctor Who for broadcast in the United States." Here's another article of intrest from SciFi Wire. Perhaps this will help. *keeping fingers crossed* February 14th, 2006. SWEET.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Image
D.W.Q.M.: "...why am I thinking of food?" -the Second Doctor Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!! Kristmutt's version of pumpkin pie I am thankful for many things, most of all, my family(immediate, extended, Tippit ;) ) and friends(in person, online) Everyone have a happy and safe holiday! God Bless! *HUGS*

Happy Anniversary! :)

Image
D.W.Q.M.: "One day I will come back, yes, I will come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am correct in mine." -the First Doctor Happy anniversary to all my Doctor Who fans! 42 years and 10 Doctors later, the show is still alive and kicking. What a great time it is to be a Doctor Who fan. (even though we are still waiting for a broadcaster here in the U.S.. ;) ) top l-r: Joe, John Levene (Sgt. Benton) bottom l-r: me, "K-9", Debbie, and Debbie's sister I'd like to thank my mom and dad for getting me hooked ~25 years ago... ;)*heehee*

sneak peak of the Doctor....

D.W.Q.M.: "We're gonna to crash land! Hahahaha..." -the Tenth Doctor I read about this on Outpost Gallifrey and Behind the Sofa Again -there is going to be a Doctor Who short (about 3 and a half minutes long, I think) during the Children in Need special on the BBC tonight. The special starts at 7, and the Doctor Who clip will air around 9pm, according to the website. (London time, of course) After the special airs, you can watch the clip on this site for an undefined period of time, sometime after 9:30pm (which will be about 3:30pm EST my time.) ;) For now, however, there is a trailer for the charity program, which includes a clip of the Doctor and Rose. ...so is that noise supposed to be the Cloister Bells, or is someone's alarm clock going off? ;) *UPDATE- 3:52pm* Ooops, silly me, forgot about daylight savings...it won't be on until 4:30pm. doh!

SNOW!

D.W.Q.M.: Moberly: "Are you OK, dressed like that? You don't seem to notice the cold." the Fourth Doctor: "I haven't come ten thousand miles to discuss the weather, Mr Moberly." IT'S SNOWING! IT'S SNOWING!!! Hmm...I guess it's time to put in my storm windows...

Cybermen? Cybermen!!

D.W.Q.M.: the Second Doctor: "The power cable generated an electrical field and confused their tiny metal minds. You might almost say they had a complete metal breakdown." Jamie : "Oooh." Second Doctor: "I'm so sorry." *hee* I've started a countdown to the Christmas Invasion! :-D Yesterday the BBC released pictures of the new Cyberman design, along with an article about the return of one of the Doctor's deadliest foes. My coworker, and fellow Doctor Who fan, Carolyn and I were comparing the new Cybermen with the old Cybermen-discussing the coolness and flaws of each particular design. Ahh, it's good to be geeky at work. When first encountered in the Tenth Planet , the looked kinda creepy (despite their sock-like masked faces), slowly walking through the snow. Creepy...up until they spoke. (Hey, someone should have decided how often and when they move their mouths before they started filming) The end result was a bit comical. Still, wit...

something serious, something fun...

D.W.Q.M.: "Look, try and use your intelligence, man, even if you are a politician." -the Third Doctor There were long lines at the polls today-barely enough room for all four of us. Wha...? You mean I actually got up early this morning so I could go vote?!?!?!!! It's not even a presidential election!!! The world must be coming to an end, either that or I'm feverish. I mean, I hate politics. Seriously though-there were some state issues that caught my attention, so I got up to go vote. ...that and I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a mayor. ;) (sorry, I couldn't help myself) Really, though-you should get out and vote today if you are able. That's all I'm going to say about that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since I hate politics so much, I find it odd that I got this result: You scored as President Laura Roslin . You may be ill but you have a job to do. Fate has put you in a powerful position by accident, b...

Who Christmas

D.W.Q.M.: "hmm....new teeth." -the Tenth Doctor U.K. Who fans get a special Christmas present this year-it's official! The BBC will be airing 'The Christmas Invasion on December 25th! Check out the online article, Christmas Invasion at Christmas Lucky ducks! :)

Happy Halloween!!!

Image
D.W.Q.M.: Ian: "Where's your spirit of adventure, hm?" the First Doctor: "It died a slow and painful death when those bats came out of the rafters." Happy Halloween, everybody!!! I'm sorry I haven't updeated on a regular basis-not even my front porch. I've either been too busy, too sick, or just plain too lazy. ;) So, since I've been lazy, but still want to put my blog in the spirit of Halloween, I decided to post this picture of our pumpkins from 2003: Happy Halloween! (this was from last year's Halloween front porch. ) I'm excited-tonight I'm heading over to Foofy and Perseph's to help hand out candy. I'm heading over there early so I can help decorate their yard. I've got fresh batteries for my camera ( I am so sorry, Perseph! ) so I can take pictures of our Edward Gorey-themed pumpkins!! I'm sooo excited-it's always fun at the PF's!!! ;) (didn't you know? There house is the place to be on Halloween!) ...
